Guys, Love what you're doing -- Greg

Ok, my best friend Bret asked me if we were going to have "jammin" shakes? Well I didn't know what these were so he explained, take some smuckers or other brand of jam and mix it with the ice cream to make a jammin shake. I thought we could just use the fresh berries or fruit to do that but he really wants these jammin shakes. ----- well to each his own, and to answer the question, NO we are not going to have jammin shakes. Monroe

Here are some of the top questions

Where did the name Monroe come from?
When I was growing up, there was a guy named Monroe that ran the local pool hall. He owned Monroe’s billiards and taught me to shoot pool and how to do some trick shots. He sold hotdogs on the side to the patrons there. Well as time went on the hotdog business took over the pool business but the name stayed on. He has since passed but the memory of those dogs is what got us to start this business and as a tribute we took on the name out here.

Why aren't you open on Sunday?
We still believe everyone needs as day of rest and reflection and after six days of serving hotdogs and other fine southern food we want a day as well. We recommend you take the day and spend it with someone you love. Watch sports or walk in the park and regenerate your energy for the coming week.

Is the chili in the bowl the same as the chili on the dog?
No, the  chili we serve in the bowl is a special recipe made from scratch with a nice hearty feel and a little burn that is just plain good. The chili on the hot dog is formulated to enhance and blend with the other flavors of the bun, wiener and other topping to give a unique taste that is sure to please.

Is the gravy hot dog gravy or hamburger gravy?
Good ol’ brown gravy – not sure I’ve ever heard of “hot dog” gravy.

Can you get hot dog gravy on the hot dogs?
Hummmm --- uhu No.

Are you going to serve cornbread with the Chili?
We had not planned on serving corn bread though this is a good idea and I’ll talk to Ma about it. We serve a nice hot buttered piece of Texas toast with the chili and the dinners, trust me you’ll forgive us for not serving cornbread.

Is it possible to take a survey to see if people would want "Cornbread Tuesdays" to go with their Chili? Can you vote more than once?
Well, anything is possible if you put your mind to it. You want to fuss with Ma over this, then please take it up with her, ma@moneroeswest.com I don’t want nothing to do with this battle right now.

What makes your hot dogs special, are they 100% beef, kosher, etc?
Our dogs are a special blend of beef and pork wrapped in a red casing that keeps the flavors in and steams to perfection.

Do you give Military Discounts?
Being a retired military member we understand the work for the pay issue and want to help maximize the return for the price paid. We support our military and do give discounts, while we will probably not offer a standing discount we will be having several specials for my fellow military brothers and sisters such as 20% off and Dollar Dog Day. I plan to offer these at least once a month.

How does a Southern Dog differ from a Chicago Dog?
Well how does a hound dog differ from a poodle? In the south we like our dogs with creamy coleslaw and chili topped with diced onions. Chicago dogs are also called garden dogs cause of the toppings, whole peppers, pickle spears, half of a tomato and relish. My thoughts are it’s a salad on a bun with meat garnish. Our dogs have flavor that we want to be part of the taste sensation not covered up by the toppings.

Are the Southern dogs, grilled, boiled, fried?
Neither, we steam our dogs and buns to keep them hot and moist.

Can I get a cheese dog where the cheese is melted?
We will talk about this, we used a shredded cheese on the sloppy dog and could probably put some on your dog if you ask real nice like and Ma is in a giving mood. We’re not big on that pump it out of a can cheese but if enough of you ask, we’ll sure look into it.

What kind of Sweet Tea do you serve? Instant, Brewed, Lipton, Tetely, Luzianne?
Only fresh brewed Luzianne tea is used in both our home and the restaurant. Like our other foods, we won’t serve you something we don’t use a home.

Can I get a coffe or hot coccoa in the winter?  Is your hot coccoa special?
We plan to serve coffee, tea and cocoa in the cooler months. Our coffee will be a special blend, the tea will be the same Luzianne brand just set up for cups instead of big pots and the cocoa, well it is a special home made recipe that Ma puts together, its thick and creamy and just plain good and made on the spot as you order it.
